WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team begins postseason play this weekend at the 2014 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship in Austin, Texas. BU will compete against eight other teams beginning Friday at the UT Golf Club.

The three-day, 54-hole event hosted by Texas, is held at the par-71, 7,412-yard UT Golf Club. The nine teams in the field are seeded based on the latest national rankings: No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Iowa State, No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Kansas, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 TCU, No. 8 Texas Tech and No. 9 Kansas State.

"We've seen this golf course as easy and as hard as it is to play, and I believe that's to our advantage," head coach Jay Goble said. "This course is only 90 miles away from us, and it has a very similar feel to what we're used to."

The Lady Bears are ranked No. 48 in the latest GolfStat rankings. Last year, Baylor finished in second place at the Big 12 Championship and advanced to the NCAA West Regional, where the team came up one stroke shy of advancing to the NCAA Championship.

"The girls are really motivated," Goble added. "They really want a conference title."

Baylor's lineup for the Big 12 Championships features junior Hayley Davis, sophomore Laura Lonardi, freshman Hadas Libman, freshman Louise Gateau-Chovelon and sophomore Natalia Perez.

Three of the nine teams in the tournament are ranked in the top 25, including No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 15 Oklahoma State and No. 22 Iowa State.

"I don't want to put too much emphasis on any one event," Goble said. "I think it adds to the pressure instead of taking away from the pressure. They've been playing well and doing all the right things, so I have a good feeling about this weekend. We're not setting any huge expectations. We just want to go out there and play our game because if that's what we do, we're going to come out really well."

Baylor players will begin the first round at 8:50 a.m. CT from the first hole in a group with Kansas and Texas. Pairings were determined by the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin team rankings. For the second and third days, the order of the teams will be reversed from the first day, with the leaders teeing off last.

Live scoring for the tournament will be available on www.GolfStat.com. Follow the official twitter feed of Baylor women's golf, @BaylorWGolf, for updates throughout the season.
