LAWRENCE, Kan. –The 18th-rated Baylor women’s golf team seeks its first conference title in program history at the 2012 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship. Hosted by the University of Kansas, the Big 12 Championship will be held April 27-29 at the 6,510-yard, par-70 course at Lawrence Country Club.

The conference championship, which will be hosted by Kansas for the second time, will feature 18 holes each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Kansas hosted the first Big 12 Championship in 1997. Live scoring for all three rounds will be available at

Pairings for the first round will be top-seeded Texas A&M and No. 2 Oklahoma State beginning at 8 a.m. CDT, followed by No. 3 Baylor and No. 4 Texas Tech at 8:40 a.m., and No. 5 Texas and No. 6 Oklahoma at 9:20 a.m. No. 7 Iowa State and No. 8 Kansas State will tee off at 10 a.m., while No. 9 Missouri and No. 10 Kansas will begin at 10:40 a.m.

For the second and third day, the order of the teams teeing off will be reversed from the first day (10-1) with the leaders teeing off last.

Baylor, which finished eighth at the 2011 Big 12 Championship, has finished third three times at the conference championship in 2001, 2005 and 2007. At last year’s Big 12 Championship, Jaclyn Jansen garnered Big 12 All-Tournament honors, tying for sixth overall.

Only two of the five golfers in Baylor’s lineup have Big 12 Championship experience. Senior Chelsey Cothran will be making her fourth Big 12 appearance, while senior Jaclyn Jansen is making her third. Cothran, who competed individually at the 2011 NCAA West Regional, ranks second on the team with a 73.48 scoring average and five top-10 finishes. Nearly 95 percent of Cothran’s 27 rounds (25.5) have counted towards the team score this season.

Leading the Lady Bears is freshman Hayley Davis, who owns a team-best 72.89 scoring average and 1.00 score vs. par. Davis has finished 11th or better in all nine tournaments this season, including seven top-10 finishes. Jansen, who tied for sixth at the 2011 Big 12 Championship, ranks third on the team with a 74.17 scoring average. Davis, Cothran and Jansen have accounted for 21 of Baylor’s top-25 finishes this season.

Davis is one of three Lady Bears that will be making their Big 12 Championship debut in Kansas. Senior Valerie Sternebeck (75.26 scoring average) and freshman Stani Schiavone (75.95 average) will also make their postseason debuts.
