AUBURN, Wash. -
Baylor's Melanie Hagewood slipped 21 spots to 27th after shooting an eight-over 80 Thursday in the third round of the 2002 NCAA Championship Finals at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash.
Hagewood started the day tied for sixth at two-under following opening rounds of 72 and 70. Six bogies and two double-bogies led to identical 40s on the front and back nines Thursday, and left her six-over at 222. Hagewood is 15 strokes off the pace set by leader Virada Nirapathpongporn of Duke, in first with a nine-under 207.
The first Baylor women's golfer to participate in the NCAA Finals, Hagewood qualified for individual play after finishing fourth at the NCAA Central Regional in East Lansing, Mich., May 11.
The junior from Clarksville, Tenn., concludes play at the championships with a final-round tee time Friday at 10:50 a.m. CDT.
The NCAA Championships includes 24 teams and six individual golfers.
