WACO, Texas - Baylor junior Meredith Jones (Eugene, Ore.), a member of the women's golf team, was named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Women's At-Large Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Jones carries a 3.68 cumulative grade-point average as a business management major and has been an integral part of the Bears' last two NCAA Regional teams and their first-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships in 2004.
Jones finished third on the team this year with a 77.19 stroke average and started all 12 tournaments for the Bears. She helped Baylor tie its highest ever finish of third by placing 12th individually at the Big 12 Championships after tying for seventh to earn All-Big 12 Tournament Team honors in 2004.
She posted six top-15 finishes this season and helped lead Baylor to three team titles. Jones led the Bears by tying for seventh at the season-opening Dick McGuire Invitational and carded her career-low round with a 70 in the final round. Her career-best finish came at this year's BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout, where she tied for fifth.
Off the course, Jones was named to the 2005 Academic All-Big 12 First Team. She has also made the Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll every semester and had a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall of 2003. She also earned the NGCA's All-Scholar Award following the 2003-04 season.
The at-large team consists of 13 NCAA-sanctioned women's sports. The academic all-district teams are submitted by each institution's sports information contacts and voted on by CoSIDA members in each district. Members of the first team are submitted nationally to be considered for Academic All-America honors.
