WACO, Texas -
Hannah Burke, one of the top players in Great Britain this year, has signed a national letter of intent to play golf at Baylor, head women's golf coach Sylvia Ferdon announced Monday.
"I am delighted to have Hannah join our golf team in 2006," Ferdon said. "Looking at her record and scoring average, I believe she can be an immediate impact player for the Baylor Bears."
Burke, a native of Hertfordshire, England, is a member of the English Girls Elite Squad this year, and won the Hertfordshire Order of Merit and several local tournaments in 2005, including the Hampshire Rose Championship and the Hertfordshire School Girls Championship. She is a three-time qualifier for the English Girls Championship and also qualified for the British Girls Championship in 2005.
Burke will be the second player from England on the roster in 2006-07, joining junior Sian Reddick, who is from the coastal town of Folkestone.
"I am confident a player from England can handle the tough and changing conditions we face in the Big 12 Conference - cold, wind, rain - I know Hannah has faced the elements growing up," Ferdon said. "Playing on the English Girls Elite Squad will be invaluable for her college competition here. The next big step for her will be Division I play."
