Baylor Women Finish 18th at NCAA Regional

TEMPE, Ariz. - Baylor's women's golf squad concluded its first ever NCAA postseason appearance with an 18th place finish at the 2000 West Regional in Tempe, Ariz.

The Bears shot a third-round 301 at the Karsten Golf Course Saturday to tie Texas Tech at 18th with a three-round score of 918. Baylor's season ended at the regional, failing to advance to the NCAA Championship after finishing 17 strokes out of the 13th and final spot.

Sophomore Tara Bateman led Baylor in the final round with a team-tournament best 74 Saturday to finish with a 230 and in a tie for 65th individually. Freshman Melanie Hagewood carded the team's best tournament score of 226 following a 76 Saturday and placed in a tie for 38th.

Saturday's 301 team score was the best round of the regional tournament for Baylor.

Rounding out the individual scoring for Baylor was senior Ali Brewer, whose third-round 75 gave her a 232 and tie for 81st place. Sophomore Nicole Johnson finished in a tie for 85th with a 233 after carding a 76 in the final round. Freshman Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson shot an 81 Saturday to finish with a 236 and place 99th.

The University of Arizona placed first in the tournament with a team score of 876.

The West Regional represented the first-ever NCAA tournament participation for Baylor, which entered the tournament ranked 34th nationally.
