ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After finishing in second place in last week’s season-opening tournament, the Baylor women’s golf team heads to the 33rd Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational that starts Monday in Albuquerque, N.M.
The two-day, 54-hole event will be hosted by New Mexico on the par-73, 6,187-yard UNM Championship Course. The tournament begins with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start on Monday. Teams play two rounds on the opening day and wrap up the tournament with 18 holes starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Baylor will be making its eighth appearance at the Dick McGuire Invitational, as the Lady Bears look to defend their 2011 title, which they won by four strokes despite entering the final day tied for fourth place.
Davis and Carberry both played in last year’s Dick McGuire Invitational as freshmen. Davis finished second individually with a 2-under 217, while Carberry, who was competing as an individual in her first collegiate tournament, shot 19-over 238. Last year’s performance was the first tournament victory for head coach Jay Goble.
The Lady Bears are coming off a second-place finish in last week’s Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. Hayley Davis’ ninth-place finish was the best for Baylor, while Lauren Taylor tied for 13th and Emma Carberry finished in 15th place.
Live scoring for the 17-team tournament will be available through www.GolfStat.com. The Lady Bears are the highest-ranked team in the field, coming in at No. 20 in the latest NGCA poll.
