IRVING, Texas - Baylor freshman Hayley Davis was named Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month for September, the conference office announced Wednesday. Davis is the first Baylor golfer to earn Golfer of the Month honors since Hannah Burke in March 2009.
Ranked No. 25 nationally in the GolfWeek/Sagarin ratings, Davis headlines the team with a 71.83 scoring average and a -0.67 score vs. par through six rounds.
Davis made her collegiate debut at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, where she finished second overall after shooting 2-under (69-70-75=214). The Wimborne, England, native turned in her second consecutive second-place finish at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, leading the Lady Bears to their first fall tournament title since 2005. Davis shot a final-round 1-under 72 to finish 2-under (72-73-72=217) for the tournament, one stroke behind the individual champion.
Davis is only the sixth Big 12 Golfer of the Month selection in program history, joining Melanie Hagewood (March 2003), Josefin Svenningsson (October 2003), Sian Reddick (November 2005), Allison Martin (March 2007) and Hannah Burke (March 2009).
Baylor continues its fall season Oct. 10-12 at Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M.
