WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team is headed to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the 38th-annual Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by the University of North Carolina.

The three-day, 54-hole event, which runs Friday through Sunday, is held at the par-72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course. The 18-team field includes Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, Duke, Florida, LSU, Michigan State, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest.

"This is another really difficult field and that's been the theme of what I want this team to have," head coach Jay Goble said. "I want them to have experience against the best teams in the country."

Baylor, which is ranked No. 46 in the latest GolfStat rankings, is competing in the tournament for the second time in program history. Last year, Hayley Davis led BU to a tie for second place with a tournament score of 21-over 885. Davis finished tied for second individually with a 3-under-par 213.

"It's a course that our team feels comfortable on, which is a good thing," Goble said. "It's very similar to what we play on in Waco. I want us to go out there and play our best game and we will see where we end up."

The Lady Bears' lineup for the Tar Heel Invitational features Davis, sophomores Laura Lonardi and Natalia Perez, freshman Maggie Beth Byers and junior Emma Carberry. Byers will be playing in Baylor's lineup for the first time.

"This will be a good opportunity for Maggie Beth to get some experience playing collegiate golf," said Goble. "She's been working really hard in practices."

Eleven teams in the tournament field are ranked in the top 25, including No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 6 Duke, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 10 Alabama, No. 12 North Carolina State, No. 13 Clemson, No. 15 North Carolina, No. 16 South Carolina, No. 20 Florida, No. 21 Michigan State and No. 22 Vanderbilt.

Baylor players will tee off from the 10th hole in Friday's first round, with Emma Carberry taking the first tee time at 8:54 a.m. CT. She'll be followed in nine-minute intervals by Byers, Perez, Lonardi and Davis, respectively.
