Nov. 18, 2013

WACO, Texas - Baylor women's golf head coach Jay Goble announced the signings of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Monday. Both signees will enroll at Baylor in the fall of 2014 and will be eligible for the 2014-15 season.

Lauren Whyte and Giovana Maymon will each have four years of eligibility when they join the Baylor program in 2014-15.

"To get Lauren and Giovana in the same signing class is going to bring a lot of consistency to our lineup, but more than anything it's going to bring some depth to our lineup, which right now we're struggling with a little bit," Goble said. "They're both really smart, really good kids and really good players."

Whyte is a product of St. Andrews, Scotland, and the Scottish Golf Academy. She won the 2012 Paul Lawrie Scottish U18 Girls Championship and was the 2011 Scottish Schools Champion, as well as a 2012 Scottish Girls winner. Whyte was also selected to represent Great Britain in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival this past January, and she is a three-time Fife Girls Champion.

"I believe Lauren's best golf is ahead of her, and she continues to get better," Goble said. "We want people who are excited to be here, and Lauren's definitely excited to get to Baylor. She had a ton of options and chose Baylor over quite a few good schools."

Maymon, who hails from Huixquilucan, Mexico, was the champion of both the Mission Inn El Campeon and Reunion Resort - Watson Course tournaments in 2011. She also placed sixth at the Girls 11-18 National Championship in 2011. She tied for 21st at the 2013 Callaway Junior World Golf Championships, tied for 23rd at the 2013 U.S. Women's Open Sectional Qualifier and tied for 13th at the 2013 AJGA Goodman Networks Junior. Maymon has been part of the Mexican National Team for several years.

"I've been watching her since about 2008, and I'm excited after all those years of watching her that she decided to come to Baylor," Goble said. "She's a great kid and she's going to bring a consistency to our team that I really like. She always shoots really solid scores and has tons of tournament experience and international tournament experience. I'm really excited to sign Giovana."

Baylor begins the spring portion of its schedule on Feb. 9 at the Northrup Grumman Invitational in Palos Verdes, Calif. For updates throughout the season, follow the official Twitter feed of Baylor Women's Golf - @BaylorWGolf.
