Head coach Jay Goble is in his second year leading the women's golf team.

Nov. 20, 2012

WACO, Texas - Baylor women's golf head coach Jay Goble announced the signings of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Tuesday. One of the signees will join the team immediately and compete in the spring semester, and the other two will enroll at Baylor in time for the 2013-14 season.

Laura Lonardi, Maggie Beth Byers and Hadas Libman all signed NLIs to join the Baylor program. Lonardi will compete as a freshman this spring, while Byers and Libman will have four years of eligibility remaining when they join the program in 2013-14.

"We could not be more excited for the players that we signed this November," Goble said. "I truly believe that this signing class joining our already outstanding team will help continue to elevate Baylor women's golf to the next level of competing for Big 12 and national championships."

Lonardi won the 2012 Italian International Championship and 2012 Coppa d'Oro Citta di Roma. She competed as a member of the Italian Amateur National Team, finishing second at the Italian Amateur Championship and the Belgium International Championship.

"Laura is starting at Baylor next semester and we cannot wait to get her here," Goble said. "She is the reigning Italian International Champion and brings to Baylor a wealth of international competition experience. She is a very intelligent and hard working young woman, and I cannot wait to have her as a part of our team."

Byers, a product of San Antonio's Churchill High School, competed on the Texas Junior Golf Tour in 2010-11, winning four of 12 tournaments played and finishing in third place twice. She won each of her last three events, including the TPC San Antonio Major Championship. She was the District 26-5A champion as a sophomore in 2011.

"Maggie Beth is exactly the kind of player that we are looking for - she is very smart, determined, has a great work ethic, but most importantly, I believe her best golf is in front of her," Goble said. "She hasn't peaked as a player, and that's a very good thing for our golf team. She has continually improved over the past few years and I think her improvement is going to continue to rise. She is very well rounded and will be an excellent addition to our team."

A Caesarea, Israel, native, Libman played on the 2010-11 Future Collegians World Tour, finishing in the top three in three of four events, including a tournament title at Black Diamond Ranch. Libman currently plays at David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Brandenton, Fla., where she has finished in the top three in three of five events this season.

"Hadas has one of the most natural golf swings I have ever seen," Goble said. "She has all of the tools to be a great player in college golf. Hadas had many options of schools in which to go play for and we could not be happier to have her here at Baylor."

Baylor, which earned two top-two finishes in its four tournaments during the 2012 fall season, begins the spring portion of its schedule at Miami's Hurricane Invitational on Feb. 4 in Coral Gables, Fla.
