WACO, Texas - Baylor women's golf head coach Jay Goble announced the additions of two student-athletes to his roster for the spring season on Tuesday. Louise Gateau-Chovelon and Allison Kuntz will both have four years of eligibility when they join the Lady Bears in January.
Kuntz, a freshman who spent the fall semester at Winthrop, is an Austin, Texas, native. Her older brother, Brad, is a left-handed pitcher on the Baylor baseball team.
"Allison is going to be a great addition to the Baylor family," Goble said. "She is an excellent student and has a strong desire to improve her game on the highest level. She is transferring from Wintrop in South Carolina to be closer to her Texas roots, and we could not be more pleased about that."
During her prep career when she attended Austin's Lake Travis High School, Kuntz took first place in the Texas Junior Golf Tour Falcon Head Championship and the TJGT Waldon on Lake Conroe tournament, and she finished in second place at the TJGT Grey Rock Championship.
A Saint Satur, France, native, Gateau-Chovelon joins the Baylor program after competing on the 2012 European Girls Team Championship squad. She has experience in the Ladies British Amateur Open, the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur and the Spanish Ladies Amateur, and she claimed a tie for fifth place in the 2012 Championship of France.
"Louise is a very strong player on the international amateur scene," Goble said. "She is one of the top ranked players in France and has a current world golf amateur ranking of 350. She will make an immediate impact on our team, and her desire to compete against the best players in college golf is very high. We are so happy that she chose Baylor and we are looking forward to welcoming her to Waco."
Gateau-Chovelon also played on the 2013 amateur circuit, where she won the Grand Prix de Bretagne and the Grand Prix de la Baule. She finished in second place at the Coupe Didier Illouz, took third place at the Biarritz Cup and finished in fifth at the Fourqueux Ladies Open.
Baylor begins the spring portion of its schedule on Feb. 9 at the Northrup Grumman Invitational in Palos Verdes, Calif. For updates throughout the season, follow the official Twitter feed of Baylor Women's Golf - @BaylorWGolf.
