AUSTIN, Texas -- The Baylor soccer team fell behind early and could not recover as Texas defeated the Bears 3-0 in Big 12 Conference action at Myers Stadium on Friday. With the loss, Baylor falls to 2-8-1 on the season, 0-3 in Big 12 play as Texas improves to 4-5-1 and 1-2 in conference play.
The Longhorns grabbed an early one goal lead on the Bears as Ashley Foster connected on a header from 10 yards out in the 12th-minute to make the score 1-0. Foster took the pass from Jill Gilbeau and put the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net as Amy Burlingham was also credited with an assist on the play.
Texas managed to extend the lead to two goals just three minutes later as Amy Burlingham corralled a shot off the post by the Longhorns' Caitlin Kennedy and blasted the ball into the lower left-hand corner of the net in the 16th-minute to give UT a 2-0 lead.
Baylor was unable to get on the board before the end of the half as the Bears went into halftime trailing Texas 2-0.
Caitlin Kennedy added a goal in the xx-minute as Baylor was unable to cut into the lead the rest of the way as Texas claimed a 3-0 victory.
Ashley Holder made seven saves in the loss while Texas goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger made two saves in goal in picking up the shutout victory.
Texas had a 27-10 advantage on shots and also held a 12-2 edge in corner kicks.
Baylor will return to action on Friday, Oct. 7, when the Bears will host Nebraska at 7:00 p.m. in Big 12 Conference action at Betty Lou Mays Field.
