WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer (10-4-2, 4-3-1 Big 12) maintained large advantages in shots and corners, but a UT goal snaked through in the 97th minute to lift No. 10 Texas (13-1-2, 5-1-2 Big 12) over the Bears, 1-0, on Friday evening at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
BU soundly dominated the offensive pace in shots (20-9), corner kicks (5-1), and shots on goal (6-2), but the late push by the Longhorns knocked the Bears down to 2-3-2 in overtime matches in 2017.
The Longhorns pushed up the sideline, crossing it into the box. With UT forward Katie Glenn breaking simultaneously with the kick, narrowly avoiding an offsides call, Texas drilled in the golden goal to steal the win.
*Baylor snapped a three-match win streak in Big 12 play, falling to 1-1-1 in third-year head coach Paul Jobson’s tenure at the helm of the program.
*Baylor has kept its opponents off the scoreboard in regulation for the seventh-straight match, with its only regulation goal allowed in conference play coming on Sept. 22 in the Big 12 opener with West Virginia, with the Mountaineers notching a goal in the 88th minute.
“That really is the tale of the game, is who put it away and who didn’t. I honestly think, in every aspect of the game – and this is no discredit to Texas, they’re a great team – but I really felt like we were the better team tonight. But at the end of the night, that doesn’t matter. The team that puts the ball in the back of the net is the team that’s going to win the game. And that’s just how it works.” – Baylor head coach Paul Jobson
