WACO, Texas -The Baylor soccer team will start the process of building upon the most successful season in school history by playing a five-match spring schedule beginning on March 1.
"Our mentality the last couple of years has been to get the strongest spring schedule possible," co-head coach Paul Jobson said. "This schedule will tell us where we are by challenging our young players and keeping our more experienced players sharp. We are blessed to be in Texas where we can get great games without going very far."
During the spring, teams are allowed to play five exhibition matches that are designed as preparation for the fall season, which begins in August. Baylor returns 22 letterwinners from a 2012 squad that was 19-1-5, while winning the Big 12 Tournament title and ending the season with a trip to NCAA Sweet 16.
The Bears are slated to kick off the spring season by traveling to former Big 12 Conference opponent, Texas A&M, on March 1 at 8 p.m.
The lone home match on the schedule will be against Big 12 foe Oklahoma on April 7 at 3 p.m. Baylor battled the Sooners to a 1-1 draw in 2012.
That home contest is sandwiched in between matches at North Texas on March 23 at 3 p.m. and a trip to Dallas to tangle with SMU at 7 p.m. on April 14.
To close out the spring season, BU will face another league opponent in Texas Tech. The Bears and Red Raiders will meet April 20 in Frisco, Texas. In two matches last season, Baylor got the better of TTU twice in games that both were decided by one goal.
Three of the five opponents that Baylor is set to take on made the NCAA Championship in 2012, while Texas A&M (No. 14) and Texas Tech (No. 25) were both ranked to end last season.
A week after the Texas Tech match, Baylor will host its annual Alumni game on April 27.
