WACO, Texas - The Baylor soccer team looks to improve on last season as the Bears play a five-match spring schedule starting on March 1.
The slate stretches from March 1 to April 11 and injects some competition into the offseason. During these exhibition games, teams can experiment with new lineups and formations as they replace graduates and incorporate new players into the lineup in preparation for the fall season, which picks back up in August.
The Bears open up the spring in Norman, Okla., against Big 12 opponent Oklahoma at 5 p.m. CT. Last season, Baylor shutout the Sooners in a 1-0 win in Waco.
In the only home match of the spring, the Bears will face Trinity on March 22 at 6 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field in Waco.
Following the home game, the Bears have short trips to Houston, where they will take on Houston Baptist on March 30 at 5 p.m., and Dallas, where they will play Texas Tech on April 5 in a Big 12 matchup. Last season Baylor battled the 15th-ranked Red Raiders to a 0-0 draw.
Baylor wraps up the spring season on April 11 at 7 p.m. against North Texas. The Mean Green have proved tough for the Bears in recent years, as Baylor is 1-2-1 against them since 2009.
The Bears' only spring opponent who was ranked at the end of last season is Texas Tech (No. 17). The Red Raiders also played in the NCAA tournament, losing in the second round to Texas A&M.
The Bears are returning 18 players from a squad that went 11-6-3 overall last season. Baylor closed out the season with a run to the Big 12 Tournament semifinals, where they lost to top seed West Virginia in a close 1-0 match. For updates on the Baylor soccer team follow @BaylorFutbol on Twitter.
