Head soccer coach Marci Jobson
announced the release of Baylor's 2010 schedule Thursday, as 13 home games, including six of the first seven, highlight the slate.
"I am very excited about our 2010 schedule," Jobson said. "Our conference games are always extremely tough, but I also believe we are playing a challenging non-conference schedule as well. It will be a great opportunity for this young team to be able to grow and compete."
The Bears will open with three-straight home games for the first time since 2004, beginning with Rice on Aug. 20 at 7:00 p.m. Baylor will then host McNeese State on Aug. 22 at 1:00 p.m. and Houston Baptist at 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 27.
Baylor will hit the road for its first road game against NCAA Tournament qualifier, Arizona State on Aug. 29 in Tempe, Ariz., and return home for three home games against UTSA (Sept. 3), Houston (Sept. 5) and New Mexico (Sept. 10). BU will then travel to Sam Houston State on Sept. 17 and welcome Prairie View A&M on Sept. 19 before opening conference play.
Baylor opens its Big 12 slate on the road, traveling to Oklahoma State (Sept. 24) and Oklahoma (Sept. 26). The Bears welcome Nebraska to Waco on Oct. 1 and host Colorado on Oct. 3 before a pair of road games at Texas A&M (Oct. 8) and Texas (Oct. 10).
The Bears wrap up non-conference play against Seattle University on Oct. 15, and travel to Kansas on Oct. 17. BU will finish the regular season just how it started, hosting three-straight games, as the Bears will face Missouri (Oct. 22), Iowa State (Oct. 24) and Texas Tech (Oct. 29) to finish Big 12 play.
The Bears return 26 players, including eight starters to the 2010 squad after finishing with an 8-6-5 mark, recording the most wins by the program since an eight-win season in 2002. In addition, BU registered three conference wins, which was the most since 2002, and qualified to the Big 12 Tournament for the first time since 2006.
