WACO, Texas- Baylor soccer announced its 2013 fall schedule on Thursday, featuring 12 home matches, eight overall matches against 2012 NCAA Tournament participants and five against 2012 conference champions. The 2012 overall record of the Bears' 20 opponents next fall is 226-157-50.
Coming off a 19-1-5 (5-0-3 Big 12) record with a 2012 Big 12 Tournament title and run to the NCAA Tournament third round, the Bears begin with an exhibition contest at Notre Dame for the second straight season. The Fighting Irish went 16-6-2 last season, won the BIG EAST regular season title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite 8.
The season opener will be a home match against UTSA on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. CT, which will be followed by another match at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field versus Northwestern State on Aug. 25. Baylor will look to continue its 11-match winning streak at home that dates back to the last two home matches of the 2011 campaign.
Baylor then hits the road for a season-long four-match excursion. First up is an Aug. 30 meeting at Washington, who was an NCAA first round participant. The Bears go to SMU on Sept. 1 and stay in the state of Texas to finish the trip. On Sept. 6, BU will face Missouri, another NCAA first round team, in College Station. Remaining in College Station, the journey will end on Sept. 8 against Texas A&M, who was the Southeastern Conference regular season champion in 2012 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
A season-long seven-match home stand follows as Baylor hosts Cal Poly on Sept. 13, McNeese State on Sept. 15 on senior day and on Sept. 20 North Texas, who won the Sun Belt Conference and was an NCAA first round participant. After hosting Boise State on Sept. 22, the Bears will begin Big 12 play on Sept. 27 against Oklahoma. On Sept. 29, Big 12 regular season champion and NCAA first round team West Virginia will come to Waco before the home stand ends on Oct. 4 against BYU, who won the West Coast Conference and advanced to the NCAA Elite 8.
The remaining six matches will all be league competitions. On Oct. 11, Baylor will travel to Texas and return home to face Texas Tech on Oct. 13. The next two matches will be on the road as the Bears face Iowa State on Oct. 18 and Kansas on Oct. 20. The home finale will take place on Oct. 25 against Oklahoma State before the Big 12 finale on Nov. 1 at TCU.
The 2013 Big 12 Soccer Championship begins with quarterfinal play on Nov. 6. Big 12 semifinals and finals will take place on Nov. 8 and 10. All matches will be played at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., home of Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer.
