Aug. 9, 2013

IRVING, Texas- Baylor soccer was picked third in the Big 12 preseason poll, the league announced on Friday. Voted on by the league's coaches, BU's ranking tied for the highest in program history for a second straight season.

Last season the Bears earned 49 points along with a first place vote and finished second in the regular season standings before going on to win the program's first Big 12 Championship title. Baylor did not receive any first place votes in 2013 but tallied its highest-ever point total with 52. BU finished just three points shy of second place Texas Tech and 11 short of preseason favorite West Virginia, who finished first in the 2012 regular season.

Baylor, which is ranked 14th in the BennettRank preseason poll, begins the 2013 season with a home match against UTSA on Aug. 23. Along with seven newcomers, the Bears return 22 players from the historic 2012 team that won Baylor's first Big 12 Championship title, posted the best record in program history (19-1-5) and advanced further in the NCAA Championship (Sweet 16) than any other BU team.
