WACO, Texas - Coming off the best season in program history, Baylor soccer has found itself in the preseason top 25 spotlight as the Bears are ranked in the top 14 of three 2013 preseason top 25 polls. BU is 10th in the Top Drawer Soccer rankings, 13th in the NSCAA/Continental Tire rankings and 14th in the BennettRank.
After earning a No. 24 ranking in the NSCAA/Continental Tire College Rankings from a 2-0 start to 2012 - which marked the first time the program had been ranked since November 10, 1999 - Baylor finished the season strongly with a No. 11 ranking in the final NSCAA poll. Now, the Bears are ranked in the preseason by the NSCAA for the first time since 1999, when BU was No. 17 to start the season.
Picked third in the Big 12 preseason poll by the league's coaches - the highest league ranking in program history for the second straight year - Baylor returns 22 players and adds seven newcomers to a team that took the program to new heights last season. The 2012 Bears won their first Big 12 Championship title, posted the best record in program history (19-1-5) and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time.
After a successful "Meet The Team" intrasquad scrimmage last Sunday, the Bears will get their first taste of outside competition with a trip to South Bend, Ind., on Saturday to face Notre Dame in an exhibition match. Six days later on Aug. 23, BU will kick off the regular season at home against UTSA at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
