Aug 21, 2013

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Baylor soccer senior midfielder Kat Ludlow was chosen as one of 30 2013 Senior CLASS Award® candidates in women's collegiate soccer, Premier Sports Management announced on Wednesday.

Ludlow is the first-ever Baylor soccer player to be a candidate for the award that was established for the sport in 2007. The Colleyville, Texas, native is one of just two representatives on the list from the Big 12, along with West Virginia's Frances Silva.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

As a team captain, Ludlow is a tremendous leader for the program, stays heavily involved in the Waco, Texas, community, works hard in the classroom as a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection in health science studies, and is coming off her best season on the field. Anchoring the defense, she helped Baylor set a program-record 0.53 goals against average en route to the program's first Big 12 Tournament championship and NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. Individually, she was a 2012 Big 12 All-Tournament Team, Second Team NSCAA All-Central Region and Second Team All-Big 12 selection as she set a career high with nine points on three goals and three assists.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 30 candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select the candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December. For more information, visit
