BAYLOR SOCCER RETURNS HOME AFTER LONG ROAD SWING

WACO, Texas - After a five game road swing, the Baylor soccer team returns to familiar territory as the Bears host a pair of games this upcoming weekend at Betty Lou Mays Field. Baylor takes on UT-San Antonio at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, before meeting Samford at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17.

"We are excited about returning home and opening up a five-game home stand," head coach George Van Linder said. "This is our final preparation before the Big 12 Conference season begins so the team has to be extremely focused if we want to come away with a pair of victories."

UT-San Antonio comes to Waco with a record of 3-4 on the season after posting a 7-0 victory over Texas Southern last weekend. The first year soccer program has played a pair of Big 12 Conference opponents this season, falling to Texas Tech, 2-0, and Texas A&M, 7-0.

The Roadrunners are led by Chelsea Zimmerman, who leads the team with five goals, two assists and 12 points on the season. Rachel Francis has seen the most time in goal for the Roadrunners, posting a 2.86 goals against average and .633 save percentage on the season.

Samford enters the weekend with a 5-1 record and is currently riding a four-game win streak. During the streak, the Bulldogs have shut-out every opponent, blanking Arkansas State (4-0), Memphis (1-0), Birmingham-Southern (1-0) and Winthrop (1-0). Prior to the team's trip to Baylor, Samford will take on No. 22 Auburn on Friday night.

The Bulldogs, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships last season, are led by Heather Birdsell, who leads the team with two goals, three assists and seven points on the season. Cayley Winters has led the way in net for Samford, posting an impressive 0.54 goals against average while recording three shutouts on the season.
