WACO, Texas - A week after starting Big 12 play with a draw, the Baylor soccer team (9-1-2) will look for its first win in league play when it hosts Kansas (7-2-1) in the conference home opener at 7 p.m. on Friday at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
The action of Friday's match against KU will be live audio streamed on BaylorBears.com. The audio feed is free and will start 10 minutes prior to kickoff. The official website of Baylor Athletics will also provide live stats via GameTracker or follow @BaylorFutbol on Twitter for updates.
A total of 17 Baylor players have at least two points on the season, while 14 have at least one goal and 13 have one assist.
Baylor currently leads the Big 12 in every offensive statistical category: shots (277), points (92), goals (33), goals per game (2.75), assists (26) and assists per game (2.17).
Baylor has outshot its opposition by a 277-61 margin in its 12 games this fall. The Bears are averaging 23.1 shots per contest with 40.8 percent of those coming on goal.
On the defensive end, Baylor has allowed the fewest goals (5) and has the best goals against average (0.40) in the league.
The Bears have eight shutouts giving them a shutout percentage of .667. That figure leads the Big 12 and is tied for 10th nationally.
At 9-1-2, BU is off to its best start during Marci Jobson's tenure and the second best start in school history. In each of the last three seasons, the Bears have opened at least 6-1-1.The best start in program history came in 1996 when Baylor began the year 12-1-1.
After going 1-0-1 last week, Baylor is receiving votes in both the National Soccer Coaches Association and the Soccer Times polls. However, BU is ranked No. 17 by CollegeSportsMadness.com and listed at No. 22 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's projection of the NCAA Championship field. In the first NCAA RPI rankings, the Bears are the top Big 12 team at No. 35.
Baylor is on seven-match home win streak. The last loss for BU at home came on October 21, 2011 versus then-ranked No. 2 Oklahoma State, 1-0. BU opened last season with a seven-match home win streak. Since 2010, the Bears are 24-3-3 at home. Jobson's complete home record is 33-10-6.
Overall, BU is undefeated in its last eight games dating back to a 2-1 double overtime lost at 15th-ranked Long Beach State.
The Bears are 6-7-3 all-time in Big 12 home openers, while in Jobson's four years BU is 1-2-1.
In the last four years, Baylor is 3-2-5 when playing only one game in a week during the regular season.
