Baylor junior goalkeeper Courtney Seelhorst earned Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Tuesday. It marked the first time she has won the award.
Seelhorst notched 12 saves and surrendered just one goal last weekend as the Bears swept two weekend matches with a 2-1 victory over Nebraska on Friday and a 1-0 win against No. 22 Colorado on Sunday. The junior's shutout of Colorado secured BU's first win over a ranked opponent since 2005 and marked Seelhorst's sixth shutout of the season. Her efforts propelled Baylor to back-to-back conference wins for the first time since 2007 and its best record since 2000.
The Big 12 defensive award was the first for a Baylor player since Gianna Quintana won the award on Nov. 3, 2008.
Texas midfielder Kristin Cummins was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Nebraska defender Ari Romero won Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors.
