Bri Campos

Oct. 9, 2012

IRVING, Texas - Baylor soccer forward Bri Campos was awarded the Big 12's Newcomer of the Week award for her play in Friday's double overtime victory at Texas Tech, the league office announced Tuesday.

Campos delivered the game-winning golden goal in the 105th-minute of action to propel the Bears to the 3-2 win in Lubbock. The freshman's first goal of the season came following a throw in from Kat Ludlow. A Texas Tech defender headed the ball backwards in the direction of Red Raider goalkeeper Victoria Esson, but a crashing Campos was the first player to the ball and with a sliding kick pushed it into the back of the net.

Campos also notched her third assist of the season in the TTU game as she helped setup Baylor's second goal of the match in the 87th minute.

With the victory, Baylor improved to 11-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in Big 12 play. It is the first time Baylor has been undefeated in its opening three Big 12 games since 1998. The win was Baylor's first at Texas Tech since 2004, breaking a string of three straight losses in Lubbock.

Campos garners the first league newcomer award for BU since Ginny Rosario-Tull won the honor on Oct. 23, 2001. It is only the fourth newcomer award that Baylor has won since 2000.

The native of Centennial, Colo., joins teammate Kat Ludlow, who won the defensive player of the week award on Sept. 4, as Bears to be honored by the Big 12 this season.

In the 16-year history of the Big 12, Baylor has won 26 individual soccer weekly honors.

The 20th-ranked Bears, who lead the Big 12 in shots, points, goals, goals allowed and assists, will be back in action on Friday when they travel to face No. 25 West Virginia at 6 p.m. (CT) in Morgantown, W. Va.
