The Baylor soccer team placed a school record, six student-athletes on the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District Team announced Tuesday. Lucy Quintana and Dana Larsen were named to the first team, while Brittany Hunemuller earned second-team honors and Courtney Seelhorst, Bethany Johnston and Lisa Sliwinski were selected to the third team.
The six student-athletes, who each earned this honor for the first time in their careers, surpassed the previous program high of three which was set in 2002 and led all Big 12 schools.
Quintana, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team member who holds a 3.95GPA in Pre-Dentistry. The senior defender started all 20 games for a Bears squad that tied a school record for shutouts with 11.
Larsen, a 2010 Academic All-Big 12 first-team selection has a perfect 4.00 GPA in Biochemistry. The sophomore from Mequon, Wis., appeared in all 20 games and was third on the team in goals (six) and points (14).
Hunemuller is an Accounting major who maintains a 3.95 GPA and is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team member. The junior midfielder who hails from Round Rock, Texas, had a goal and two assists in 19 games for the Bears. From her spot at defensive midfielder, she helped Baylor to its 11 shutouts on the year.
Seelhorst, a junior goalkeeper from Plano, Texas, is a Pre-Physical Therapy major with a 3.34 GPA. In addition to helping guide the team to 11 total shutouts, she also is tied for second in program history for most solo shutouts with eight. Her 0.81 goals against average this season is second all-time at Baylor.
Johnston, who holds a 4.00 in Biochemistry, is a junior midfielder from McKinney, Texas, and a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team member. She appeared in all 20 games for the Bears this season, scoring two goals.
Sliwinski, a sophomore forward from Plano, is a Pre-Med major who maintains a 3.78 GPA. She led the team in points (19) and assists (5) while also tying for the team lead in goals (7).
With their first-team nominations, Quintana and Larsen will be eligible for Academic All-American honors to be announced on Thursday, Nov. 18.
