Soccer Lands 12 Student-Athletes on Academic All-Big 12 Team

IRVING, Texas - Twelve members of the Baylor soccer team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team, including 10 on the first team, the Big 12 Conference announced Tuesday. Baylor's 12 student-athletes were the second most by any school, just one behind Beckah Brady, Megan Humke, Jessica Hutton, Betsy Kyle, Pat Roscovius, Megan Sherrell, Nicky Smith, Lauren Weathers, Katie White and Shea Yates earned first team honors while Andrea Fagan and Nikki Watson were named to the second team.
Seniors Hutton (accounting), Roscovius (general studies) and Sherrell (sociology/history) picked up their third consecutive all-conference honor. Fagan, a junior majoring in graphic design, was named to the team for the second straight year. Brady (So., applied mathematics), Humke (So., communication science disorders), Kyle (So., health science studies), Smith (So., business), Watson (So., business), Weathers, (So., exercise physiology), White (So., business) and Yates (Sr., general studies) each earned their first selections to the academic all-conference squad. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 75 first team members combined with 20 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. |
