WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer senior defender Precious Akanyirige was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 second team, announced Thursday afternoon by the organization.
Akanyirige earned the honor for the first time in her career and is the first selection to the list by a BU student-athlete since 2015 (Lindsay Burns). She is the 16th player in program history to be recognized, as BU has had 25 all-time selections (includes players honored multiple times) and five since 2012.
A biology major with an anthropology minor and a 3.79 GPA, Akanyirige has been one of the top defenders in the country and has anchored a BU backline that has ranked among the best in goals allowed.
Academically, Akanyirige is a three-time selection to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, a seven-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection, and a five-time Baylor Dean’s List honoree.
After Akanyirige concludes her time at Baylor in the spring of 2018, she will continue her education career with her sight set on beginning medical school that summer.
The Pleasanton, Calif., native leads her team into NCAA postseason play on Friday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field, facing the Rice Owls.
