KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America honored the Baylor soccer team as one of its NSCAA Team Academic Award winners for the 2011-12 academic year recently.

The Bears' 3.56 GPA led a group of eight Big 12 schools to be honored.

The NSCAA accolade comes on the heels of 15 BU players making the Academic All-Big 12 team and three Bears making the Capital One Academic All-District ® team.

The NSCAA Team Academic Award was instituted in 1996. To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for the 2011-12 academic year.

A total of 498 women's teams posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.
