The No. 9 Baylor softball team (11-2) split on day two of the Fairfield Inn North-Texas Shootout, falling 1-0 to Texas State (7-7) before bouncing back for a 3-2 win against North Texas (5-6) in game two.
“I am disappointed in our effort today,” head coach Glenn Moore said. “We should be playing in the championship game in our home tournament on our home field. Our offense didn’t come through enough, but at least we salvaged a win in game two.”

Whitney Canion (5-1) allowed just two hits, but Baylor managed just two hits of its own en route to a 1-0 loss.
The Bobcats got the only run they would need in the third when Canion led off the inning by hitting Shelby Carnline. A sacrifice bunt and grounder to second put pinch runner Brittany Garcia at third with two outs. Chandler Hall then hit a grounder to first that was bobbled, allowing Garcia to score and Chandler to reach first for the 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bears put a two-out threat together in the top of the fourth, with Canion reaching on a fielder’s choice and reaching second on a Holly Holl single, but a Kayce Walker groundout ended the threat.
Canion struck out five, allowing two hits and one unearned run in 6.0 innings of work.
Anne Marie Taylor (5-3) picked up the win, striking out five, walking one and giving up two hits in 7.0 innings.

Kelsi Kettler came through with a clutch two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to give Baylor the 3-2 lead and eventual win in game two.
Courtney Repka (4-0) struck out five while allowing six hits, two runs and one walk in a complete-game effort.
The Mean Green put up a pair of runs in the second, loading the bases on three singles with one out. Repka was then called for two illegal pitches that brought two runs across for the early lead.
Baylor cut the lead in half in the third, as Kathy Shelton reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second with two outs. Walker came through with an RBI-single up the middle to make it 2-1.
Repka settled in and gave up just one hit in the final four innings, allowing for the comeback in the sixth.
Canion led off with a single through the right side and was pinch run for by Kaitlyn Thumann. Holl then hit a grounder to short that wasn’t handled, putting runners at first and second. Delaney Guy advanced the runners to second and third on a groundout to first, setting the stage for Kettler. The junior took the first pitch and hit a liner to the right center gap, scoring a pair for the 3-2 lead.
Repka struck out the first batter of the seventh and then received a highlight reel play from Megan Turk at third for the second out. A shot down the line found Turk laying out, backhanding the ball and rising to her feet in time to get Jordan Terry for the second out. Turk made the final play on a routine grounder to end the game.
Baylor will play in the third place game against North Texas at 10:00 a.m. at Getterman Stadium
