ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 25 Baylor softball team (15-6) launched six home runs to complete the series sweep against New Mexico (8-10) Saturday, defeating the Lobos 17-4 (5) and 5-4 in the doubleheader.

"It's tough to win three games, much less four," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We used some new players in new positions today, and I am happy that we were able to be a real, true team and get a pair of victories."

Bree Hanafin had two home runs and six RBI in game one, while Dani Leal had a pair of blasts and three RBI in game two.

Game One
No. 25 BU 17, New Mexico 4 (5)

Baylor scored a season high 17 runs en route to a 17-4 win over New Mexico in game one.

Whitney Canion went 5.0 innings, allowing seven hits, four runs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

The Lady Bears got an RBI-double from Jordan Vannatta and a single that scored a run from Nicole Wesley to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first.

A pair of errors guided BU to four runs in the second. Tiffany Wesley laced an RBI-single that scored Kathy Shelton, and Vannatta registered a sac fly for her second RBI in as many innings. That led to a Courtney Nieten two-run blast that put Baylor up 6-0 through two.

In the third, the Lady Bears added a run on a sac fly from Shelton that scored N. Wesley for a seven-run advantage.

Baylor put the game far out of reach in the fourth, scoring seven runs on six hits, including a pair of home runs. Vannatta got the scoring started with a two-run shot with one out, and N. Wesley's RBI-double scored Sydney Wilson. With two runners on, Bree Hanafin hammered a three-run homer over the left field grandstands for a 13-0 lead. The Lady Bears' final run of the stanza came on a Tiffany Wesley single that scored Megan Turk.

With a 14-0 lead, Hanafin struck again with a three-run home run to put Baylor up 17-0 in the top of the fifth.

New Mexico scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to break up the shutout.

Hanafin's six RBI were a career high, while Vannatta recorded her second four-RBI game of the season.

Game Two
No. 25 BU 5, New Mexico 4

Baylor's third lead of the day turned out to be the charm, as a Nicole Wesley single in the sixth drove in Leal for the 5-4 lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Dani Leal homered twice for the second time this season, totaling three RBI.

Alicia Vasquez (2-0) picked up the victory, entering in the fifth and throwing two shutout innings and allowing just one hit.

Baylor took control right away in the first, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Courtney Nieten laced an RBI-single to right, and one batter later, Leal belted a two-run bomb for the three-run cushion.

New Mexico added runs in the first, second and third to tie the game at three.

Leal struck again to help Baylor regain the lead, hitting a solo home run in the fourth for her sixth of the season.

The Lobos struck again with a sac fly by Brandow that scored Hodgins from third, after she notched an RBI-triple, tying the game.

In the top of the sixth, Leal went a perfect 3-for-3, registering a leadoff triple that allowed N. Wesley to drive her in with a single to second for a 5-4 advantage.

Canion closed the door and picked up her first save of the year, striking out three and allowing one hit and one walk in one inning of work.

Courtney Repka started and went 4.0 innings, allowing six hits, four runs, two walks and fanning three.

The Lady Bears will hit the road again for two games in two days, beginning with UTSA on Tuesday, March 9 at 5:00 p.m. in San Antonio.
