WACO, Texas - In front of a sold out crowd, Texas spoiled Baylor's Big 12 home opener with a 4-1 win over the Lady Bears Saturday at Getterman Stadium. The Longhorns' (19-15) used a three-run homer from Mandy Ogle and a strong pitching performance from freshman Tiarra Davis to begin Big 12 play, and the Longhorns snapped Baylor's (23-5) 11-game winning streak.
Ogle took a 1-1 pitch over the rightfield wall in the fourth inning with a pair of runners on, off Baylor starter Whitney Canion, for her fourth home run of the season.
Baylor's Ari Hawkins answered in the bottom half of the fourth with her first collegiate home run over the centerfield wall to cut the deficit to two, but the Lady Bears only managed one more hit the rest of the game.
UT's Tiarra Davis improved to 8-7 on the season with the two-hitter, and she struck out four in the win. Canion fell to 12-4 on the season and struck out four in five innings of work.
- Ari Hawkins hit her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Sarah Smith's 5-game hit streak came to a close, but she did extend her on-base streak to nine games.
- 1,306 fans attended the game marking the 13th largest crowd in Getterman Stadium history.
