LUBBOCK, Texas - Kaitlyn Thumann led the way with four of Baylor's 15 hits en route to an 8-4 win over No. 24 Texas Tech (36-13, 9-8) Saturday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock.

"We took an aggressive approach at the plate today and executed," head coach Glenn Moore said. "I was really happy with our response to last night, but we have to be ready for a battle tomorrow."

Thumann's four hits were a career high and marked just the second time a Baylor player has recorded four in a game this season, as Kathy Shelton did so on March 13 against UTSA. Four different Lady Bears registered two hits on the day, with Megan Turk, Holly Holl, Jordan Strickland and Clare Hosack each posting a pair of hits.

The Lady Bears' 15 hits marked a season high in a Big 12 game this season.

Courtney Repka (14-7) who allowed just one hit in the first 4.1 innings, threw a complete game, giving up five hits, four runs, four walks and tying a season high eight strikeouts.

BU jumped out to a four-run lead in the first when Kayce Walker and Holl had back-to-back one-out singles to put runners at second a third. Kelsi Kettler got the scoring going with a sac fly to center, followed by two-straight RBI-singles from Turk and Thumann, making it 3-0. Strickland capped off the scoring with a check swing single up the middle for the early cushion.

Thumann struck again in the third with a solo home run to left center, her first of the season for the 5-0 lead.

The Lady Bears continued to pile on the scoring with a pair in the fifth. Kettler, Thumann and Strickland each singled to load the bases with no outs. After a pair of outs at third, Sarah Crockett came in to pinch hit and roped a two-RBI single into left to make it 7-0.

The Red Raiders cut the BU lead to three with a grand slam by Adriana Perez after two walks and a single loaded the bases with one out in the fifth.

Baylor took its advantage to four with the second BU home run of the day, this time from the bat of Strickland over the left field wall, making it 8-4.

Repka closed the door in the seventh, allowing just a leadoff single and retiring the final three batters.

Baylor and Texas Tech will play the rubber game on Sunday beginning at Noon.
