WACO - No. 8 Texas (40-8, 14-6) scored five unanswered runs, all with two outs for a 7-3 win over No. 25 Baylor (30-19, 7-13) Tuesday night at Getterman Stadium. The crowd of 1,314 was the second largest of the season and 11th highest all time for BU.

The Lady Bears held a 3-2 lead through 5.2 innings before five unanswered Longhorn runs over the final 1.2 all occurred with two outs.

“We played well and hit the ball hard tonight,” head coach Glenn Moore said. “We got a bit unlucky that some of the hits were right at people, but I thought we played a good game. Texas is a team that could win the league and they hit some tough pitches out of the park late in the game.”

Baylor registered seven hits off UT starter Rachel Fox in the first 2.2 innings, as Kathy Shelton led the way with two BU hits on the night. Clare Hosack’s two RBI marked her team-leading sixth multi-RBI game of the year, while Holly Holl extended her streak of safely reaching base to nine games.

Courtney Repka (15-11) held the Longhorns’ offense in check for 5.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits, but Texas totaled seven hits and five runs in the final 1.2. Repka finished the night allowing seven hits six runs, five walks and two strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Liz Paul came on for the final inning, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two.

Blaire Luna (17-3) threw the final 3.0 innings, walking one and striking out three to pick up the win.

Baylor jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first with back-to-back singles from Shelton and Kayce Walker before Holly Holl walked to load the bases with no outs. Kaitlyn Thumann stepped in and delivered a deep sac fly to left center that easily scored Shelton for the 1-0 advantage.

Texas took a one-run lead with a pair of runs in the third on a bases loaded two-RBI double from Courtney Craig that made it 2-1.

The Lady Bears answered in the bottom half of the third to grab the lead back on a two-strike, two-out, two-RBI single from Clare Hosack. Thumann started the rally with a one-out single to short and advanced to second on an errant throw to first that went in the dugout before reaching third on a bunt single from Megan Turk. With two outs, Hosack poked a single into right center to score two for a 3-2 lead.

The Baylor lead held until Taylor Hoagland hit a two-run homer to right center with two outs for a 4-3 UT advantage. Following a single, Lexy Bennett homered to left for a 6-3 lead.

The Longhorns made it 7-3 in the seventh on an RBI-single from Taylor Thom with two outs.

Baylor will host Iowa State (14-33, 2-16) for its final three home games of the season, beginning Friday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m.
