OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Baylor softball team (37-19) got a game-winning RBI-single from Meagan Weldon in the bottom of the seventh en route to a 5-4 win over Texas A&M (31-20) Saturday in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The win was the first in the conference tournament since May 12, 2005.
The Aggies scored all three runs in the third, as a pair of errors led to all three runs scoring. With runners at first and second and one away, Morrow hit a grounder to third that was thrown over first, then another errant throw to third allowed both runners to come home, and eventually Morrow came around to beat a throw to the plate for a 3-1 lead.
The Lady Bears answered back in the fifth, with an Alex Colyer RBI-double that scored Tiffany Wesley and Brette Reagan to even the game. With runners on the corners, Sydney Wilson got in a rundown between first and second, allowing Colyer to take off for home and beat the throw home, giving BU a 4-3 advantage.
Texas A&M tied the game back up in the top of the seventh with a solo shot to right by Alex Reynolds, setting the stage for a dramatic bottom of the seventh.
A pair of fielder's choices and a walk gave Baylor the bases loaded with two outs. Weldon then stepped up and looped a ball just over short, falling in between two Aggies for the win.
Whitney Canion (24-15) got the win, going 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, four walks and eight strikeouts.
Baylor will continue its quest for a Big 12 title at 5:00 p.m. against Missouri. That game can be heard live on 1660 ESPN.
