IRVING, Texas -

In a pre-season vote conducted by league coaches, the Baylor softball team has been picked to finish third in the Big 12 Conference the league office announced Thursday. The Lady Bears were picked to finish second last season.

Baylor, the defending Big 12 regular-season champion, will look to repeat as Big 12 regular season champion as it returns six starters and 10 letterwinners, including two-time NFCA All-American Brette Reagan and Big 12 Freshman of the Year Kirsten Shortridge. Last season, the Lady Bears tied a program record for wins along with capturing their first Big 12 crown before advancing to the WCWS for the first time in school history.

Texas A&M (79 points) received seven of the possible 10 first-place votes to edge out second-place Oklahoma, which earned 70 points, including one first-place tally. Baylor came in third (64 points) with two first place nods followed by Missouri, Texas and Nebraska. Filling the remaining spots in the preseason ranking were Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas and Iowa State.

The Lady Bears will begin the season at home against Syracuse on Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. as part of the Getterman Classic which runs Feb. 15-17.  For season ticket information, call 254-710-1000.
