WACO, Texas - Fresh off a No. 18 national preseason ranking by the NFCA, the Baylor Bears were selected to finish second in Wednesday's Preseason Big 12 Softball Poll. The Lady Bears received one first-place vote with 31 total points, while defending NCAA champion Oklahoma was picked to repeat as Big 12 champions with six first-place votes and 36 poll points.
The poll, voted on by the league's head coaches, picked the Sooners to win the Big 12 for the fifth time in six seasons. Baylor's second-place nod was the highest for the program since the 2007 poll picked the Lady Bears to finish second.
Baylor is coming off a 42-17 season in 2013 where the Lady Bears finished third in the Big 12 with a 10-8 record. The Sooners finished the year as Big 12 and national champs with a 57-4 overall record and a 15-2 league record.
Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Iowa State rounded out the 2014 preseason poll with the third-through-seventh spots respectively. The Longhorns, ranked No. 10 in the 2014 AFCA Preseason Top 25, were slated third with 26 points.
