Softball Garners National Ranking

Jan. 26, 2010

The Baylor softball team earned a national ranking of 15th in the Softball Preseason Poll, and a ranking of 17th in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Poll announced Tuesday. This is the highest preseason ranking since being ranked eighth in 2008.

“I think this is a tribute to both the 2009 and 2010 teams,” head coach Glenn Moore said. “The respect of being ranked in preseason is great, but where you finish is most important and I think our kids know that.”

Baylor is one of three Big 12 teams to be ranked, joining Missouri (No. 9/9) and Oklahoma (No. 10/11). In all, the Lady Bears will face seven teams ranked in the top-25, including No. 5/3 Florida, No. 4/6 Arizona, No. 6/8 UCLA, No. 9 Missouri, No. 10/11 Oklahoma, No. 16/14 Ohio State and No. 21/22 Louisville. Additionally, BU will face eight other teams that are receiving votes.

Baylor returns 11 letterwinners and seven starters off of last season’s Super Regional team, including Big 12 Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, Whitney Canion. The Lady Bears will begin the 2010 season on the road at the Marriott Houston Hobby Classic on Feb. 12-14. To purchase season tickets for Baylor’s 2010 home schedule, call 245-710-1000.
