Softball Starts 2014 at No. 16 in Softball Poll

Baylor was ranked No. 16 in the / USA Softball Preseason Top 25

WACO, Texas - Baylor's softball team received its second preseason national ranking Tuesday as the Lady Bears rank 16th in the Softball Preseason top 25.

Baylor was also ranked No. 18 last week by the USA Today / NFCA Preseason Top 25, and the Lady Bears are set to begin the 2014 season Feb. 7 in Las Vegas, Nev. Baylor finished 2013 at 42-17 and were ranked No. 20 in the final rankings of both polls.

The Lady Bears will have an early test opening the season vs. No. 3/5 Washington Feb. 7 at UNLV's Sportco Kick-Off Classic. Baylor will also take on San Diego, UC Davis, UNLV and Arkansas during the 3-day tournament to open the season.

BU will return home the following weekend, Feb. 14-16, to play host to the annual Getterman Classic featuring UAB, Drake, Lipscomb, Iowa and East Carolina.

Oklahoma, last year's national champions, was picked second in the poll while Texas was the only other Big 12 team represented, checking in at tenth; Tennessee took the top spot in the poll.

The / USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll is currently in its 12th year. Starting Feb. 11, regular season polls will be released for 14 consecutive Tuesdays with the final poll of the season to be released June 10 following the NCAA WCWS. The first of 14 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week accolades will also be announced on Feb. 11 with a new player chosen each Tuesday of the regular season.
