Softball Hosts Cub Club Clinic
Feb. 1, 2005 WACO, Texas - The Baylor softball team hosted a free clinic for Cub Club members Saturday, Jan. 29. Participating Cub Club members received free pizza at the beginning of the clinic, as well as free autographed posters. Head Coach Glenn Moore and assistant coaches Mark Lumley, Josh Newman, and Britni Sneed assisted with the clinic. Baylor players Kylie Conroy, Lisa Ferguson, Chelsi Lake, Nicole Jackson, Erin Sheek, and Sarah Hausner also stayed after practice to offer their help and expertise. The kids were able to work on a variety of techniques, including throwing, catching, hitting, swinging, base stealing and the proper batting stance. Lumley emphasized focusing on rhythm and balance, as well as hand-eye coordination in order to hit line drives. The kids broke up into groups to work on position drills. They rotated to catcher, pitcher, infield and outfield. The Baylor players offered advice and demonstrated examples of proper techniques at each position. In his closing statements, Lumley stressed that one of the most important aspects of being a softball player at Baylor is academics. "All of our current players have grown up going to clinics just like this one, and they had to work hard to get to the level they are today," he said. He left the kids with the challenge that they must make good grades in the classroom to be able to play at a school like Baylor.
