SCOUTING SOUTHERN MISS
Southern Miss is coming off a 2-5 performance on the west coast, picking up wins over Cal State Fullerton and Fresno State. USM is led offensively by Morgan McKeever’s .391 average, two doubles, triple and four RBI. In the circle, Beth Dietrich holds a 1.56 ERA, while Kimberly Wagner leads in innings pitched with 20.0 to go with a 1-2 mark and 3.15 ERA. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish eighth in the nine-team Conference USA, returning five players and three starters off the 2012 squad.

NO-NO? YES, YES!
Making just her second start, freshman Heather Stearns threw a complete-game no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Northern Illinois on Feb. 9. The performance was just the 16th no-hitter all-time at Baylor and the ninth in 7.0 or more innings. Stearns became the sixth BU freshman to throw a no-hitter.

EXPERIENCE IN THE CIRCLE
The Lady Bears pitching staff returns three players with considerable pitching experience. Combined, Whitney Canion (69), Courtney Repka (46) and Liz Paul (19) have combined for 134 wins during their careers.

Combined with Stearns, the staff has a 1.62 ERA with a .163 opponent batting average to go along with 39 strikeouts in 34.2 innings of work.

CANION RETURNS
Canion returned to the circle for the Lady Bears after pitching just eight games in 2012 before tearing the ACL in her left knee. The redshirt junior is 1-1 with a 0.54 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 13.0 innings of work. Canion is Baylor’s all-time leader in career strikeouts (898) and strikeouts/7 innings pitched (9.55).

LET’S GET IT STARTED... AT HOME
The Lady Bears began the season at home for the third-consecutive season, opening with a 12-game homestand.

GETTERMAN CLASSIC SUCCESS
Baylor kept the Getterman Classic trophy at home this season, capturing its seventh title in the 12-year history. The Bears now have an overall record of 54-8 in the tournament’s 12-year history.
