The Baylor softball team (5-2) will wrap up its 12-game homestand, hosting the Miken Classic from Feb. 15-17.

SCOUTING THE MIKEN CLASSIC
Northern Colorado went 2-3 in its opening tournament, the Cyclone Invitational in Ames, with wins over IPFW and South Dakota State. The Bears, hitting .257 as a team, feature three players hitting over .300, including Jamie Pollak’s .455 average. Kelci Cheney leads the UNC pitching staff with a 1- mark, 0.78 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 18.0 innings.
Pacific enters the weekend with a perfect 3-0 mark, defeating Sacramento State, 3-0, on Tuesday to keep their perfect start to 2013 intact.The Tigers are hitting .314 as a team, as eight players currently feature batting averages over .300. Nikki Armagost (2-0, 0.00 ERA) arms a staff that has a 0.43 ERA.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi enters with a 1-4 mark, with two losses to No. 6 Texas. Meagan McKinney guides the offense with a .462 average, 2 home runs and six RBI. As a staff, the Islanders hold a 5.82 ERA with opponents hitting .248 against them.
EXPERIENCE IN THE CIRCLE
The Lady Bears pitching staff returns three players with considerable pitching experience. Combined, Whitney Canion (70), Courtney Repka (46) and Liz Paul (19) have combined for 135 wins during their careers.
Combined with Stearns, the staff has a 1.15 ERA with a .153 opponent batting average to go along with 61 strikeouts in 48.2 innings of work.
STEARNS SHOWING OFF
Freshman Heather Stearns has made a great impression early for BU. Making just her second start, Stearns threw a complete-game no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Northern Illinois on Feb. 9. The performance was just the 16th no-hitter all-time at Baylor and the ninth in 7.0 or more innings. Stearns became the sixth BU freshman to throw a no-hitter. Additionally, she hit a walk-off home run, the first hit of her career, on the first pitch of the seventh to defeat Southern Miss on Feb. 12.
Canion returned to the circle for the Lady Bears after pitching just eight games in 2012 before tearing the ACL in her left knee. The redshirt junior is 2-1 with a 0.38 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 18.2 innings of work.
