WACO, Texas -
The No. 15-ranked Baylor softball team will take its 8-2 record west to Palm Springs, Calif. Thursday through Sunday for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Out of five games this weekend, Baylor will take on nationally ranked Missouri (16/18) Thursday at 10:30 p.m., PT and Stanford (11/13) Friday at 3 p.m., PT.

The Bears are coming off a 4-1 weekend at their own Getterman Classic including a 2-1 win over Missouri (4-1) to close the tournament, setting up a rematch on neutral field Thursday night.

Baylor will take on Stanford (12-0) and Cal State-Fullerton (8-3) Friday at 3 pm. and 5:30 p.m., PT, respectively. Saturday, the Lady Bears will face California (5-4), receiving votes in both polls, at 3 p.m., PT before closing the tournament Sunday against Northwestern (7-2) at 9 a.m., PT.

"[The Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic] is always the toughest non-conference tournament in the country, it's considered the strongest field of teams," said Baylor head coach Glenn Moore. "We like to go out there and really see how good we are. Fortunately, we've had two good weekends against tough competition to prepare us for it, so expectations are high for us to perform well."

Offensively, Baylor had a great weekend to open the season at UNLV's tournament, hitting .396 to help begin the season at 4-1. Then, at the home tournament last weekend, the Bears used strong pitching, allowing just six runs over five games, to post four more wins. Lipscomb beat Baylor 1-0 Saturday for the team's only loss on the weekend.

Both Baylor starting pitchers Heather Stearns (4-0) and Whitney Canion (4-2) have four wins on the season, and Canion has posted a 0.64 ERA in her last five starts since a rough, season-opening loss to No. 3 Washington.

Clare Hosack and Jordan Strickland lead the Lady Bears offensively early in the season with nine RBI apiece while Hosack leads the team in hitting at a .478 average, and Kaitly Thumann is not far behind, hitting .424.
