The No. 9 Baylor softball team (6-1) returns home for a midweek doubleheader against Northwestern State (2-6) Tuesday afternoon at Getterman Stadium beginning at 3 p.m.
"We need games and to get back on the field," head coach Glenn Moore said. "Our schedule has been in constant change with weather and we need to get in a good rhythm."
The Lady Bears are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday. Kathy Shelton (.435) paces an offense that is hitting .328, while Megan Turk (.409) and Holly Holl (.391, 8 RBI) have been steady for the Green and Gold. Shelton also holds a 12-game hitting streak and has reached safely in 23-straight games dating back to last season, and Walker has reached safely in all seven games this season.
In the circle, All-American Whitney Canion has given up just one run in 20.0 innings, striking out 39 and walking just nine with a 0.35 ERA. Courtney Repka has been impressive as well, sporting a 2-0 mark with a 0.79 ERA in 17.2 innings. The Lady Bears hold a 1.04 ERA overall with opponents batting just .131 against them.
Northwestern State, which will play its third consecutive game against a ranked opponent, fell to No. 20 Louisiana-Lafayette 10-0 (6) and No. 25 North Carolina 1-0 on Sunday at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Lafayette, La. Tara McKenney leads the Lady Demons (hitting .220 as a team) with a .391 batting average. In the circle, Kelee Grimes has 38 strikeouts in 21.1 innings to go with a 3.94 ERA.
Baylor leads the all-time series with Northwestern State 18-2, including a 9-1 mark in Waco.
