SCOUTING IOWA STATE
The Cyclones, 1-4 against ranked foes, open Big 12 play after a 10-day roadtrip to Florida. Offensively, ISU is hitting .300 as a team with 21 home runs and 54 stolen bases and led by Erica Miller’s .379 clip. Tori Torrescano is the power bat and power arm in the circle. At the plate, the senior is batting .349 with 10 home runs and 31 RBI, while in the circle, she leads the team with a 7-7 mark to go along with a 4.03 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 99 innings. As a staff, the Cyclones have a 4.47 ERA and allow opponents to hit .301.

VS. RANKED OPPONENTS
Baylor is 2-4 against ranked opponents this season, with both wins coming on the road (at Arizona State, at Hawaii).

CAREER RECORDS
A pair of Baylor are close to breaking all-time program career marks. Whitney Canion is second on the all-time wins list at BU with 81, one shy of Lisa Ferguson’s record of 82.
Kathy Shelton sits in second on the all-time stolen base list with 101, one shy of Harmony Schwethelm’s 102.

THE THUMANN SHOW
When coach Moore inserted Kaitlyn Tumann into the lineup on April 21, 2012 in Lubbock, little did he know what a gem he had found. Used mostly as a pinch runner, the Katy, Texas, native, went 4-4 with a home run and closed out the final 14 games hitting .488. Since being inserted to the lineup, she hasn’t missed a game and over the last 47 games she is hitting .438 with seven doubles, two triples, four home runs, 25 RBI and 29 steals.

SHELTON ON A TEAR
Senior outfielder Kathy Shelton extended her on-base streak to 15 games last weekend. During the stretch, the senior has a .455 on-base percentage and 10 steals.

HOSESACK’S HOSE
Junior catcher Clare Hosack’s arm is truly an equalizer when it comes to eliminating baserunners. The North Palm Beach, Fla., native, as thrown out 41 percent (28-of-68) of runners that have attempted to steal while adding 10 pickoffs during her career. This season, runners have been weary, as she has thrown of 6-of-12.

UNDERCLASSMEN OVERPERFORMING
The Lady Bears’ underclassmen have been a vital part of the team’s offensive success in 2013. Of the squad’s 129 RBI on the year, 90 (70 percent) have come from underclassmen, with 62 coming from freshmen. Underclassmen have also accounted for 13 of the team’s 17 home runs, with freshmen totaling 10.

HOME RUNS RETURN
Baylor’s 17 home runs after 33 games has surpassed the 14 hit in all 56 games of the 2012 season.

STATS NEAR NATION’S BEST
Baylor currently ranks No. 2 nationally in team ERA (1.35) behind Oklahoma’s 0.85. Heather Stearns is also eighth nationally in walks allowed per 7/IP (0.86) with a strikeout/walk ratio of 11.5.

EXPERIENCE IN THE CIRCLE
The Lady Bears pitching staff has three players with considerable pitching experience. Combined, Whitney Canion (81), Courtney Repka (49) and Liz Paul (20) have combined for 150 wins during their careers.
Combined with Heather Stearns (8-3, 1.29 ERA), the staff has a 1.35 ERA with a .164 opponent batting average to go along with 275 strikeouts in 223.2 innings of work.
