KU enters Friday's doubleheader hitting .283 as a team, with five Jayhawks posting batting averages of .300 or better. Losers of four-straight, Jayhawk pitchers hold a team ERA of 2.84, with freshman Alicia Pille (11-5) leading the starters with a 2.20 ERA and 125 strikeouts, good for fifth in the Big 12. Offensively, the team is hitting .283 with Maggie Hull batting .355 to go with seven doubles, five home runs and 25 RBI.
Kansas leads the all-time series 23-18 and 10-9 in Waco. Baylor swept last season’s series with 9-3 and 8-0 wins over the Jayhawks in Lawrence.
The Lady Bears put on a hitting clinic Wednesday against Stephen F. Austin. BU's 17 hits in game one were the most in a single game since April 6, 2011 at Texas Tech, while Holly Holl’s leadoff homer was the first time a Lady Bear led off Baylor's first at-bat with a home run since Ashley Monceaux did so on May 19, 2007 vs. Hofstra. Strickland homered later that inning to mark the first time two BU players homered in the same inning since Clare Hosack and Dani Leal did so on April 6, 2011 at Tech.
PITCHING STAFF HOLDING ITS OWN
The Lady Bears entered the week ranked 16th nationally and hold a 1.59 ERA, with Repka leading the way with a 1.40 mark.
HOMERS AWAY FROM HOME
Baylor plays in one of the toughest home run parks in the country, and this proves it. In Big 12 games since 2007 the Lady Bears have hit 43 of their 57 home runs (75 percent) away from Getterman Stadium.
HOLL HEATING UP
Holly Holl is on a tear with an eight-game hitting streak, as the sophomore is hitting .455 (10-for-22) over the last eight games. She is second on the team with a .320 average and leads the team with eight doubles this season.
Kathy Shelton has been the leader off the Baylor offense so far this season. The junior leads the team in batting average (.388), runs (28), hits (40), slugging percentage (.466), on-base percentage (.484) and stolen bases (19). She ranks second in the Big 12 with her 19 steals.
Baylor is 20-1 in games it scores first, and 4-11 when the opponent does. The lone loss when scoring first came against UCLA. When the Lady Bears hold a lead after four innings, they are undefeated, 16-0.
The Lady Bears have two of the top eight base stealers in program history on the 2012 squad. Senior Kayce Walker enters the weekend No. 5 all-time with 75, while Shelton is No. 7 with 69.
As a team, BU is second in the Big 12 with 57 stolen bases behind Texas’ 63.
