WACO, Texas - The Baylor softball team returns to action after an idle weekend in Big 12 play Tuesday at the University of Houston. The Lady Bears (28-6) and the Cougars (23-10) will meet at 4 p.m. at the Cougar Softball Field for a doubleheader.
Baylor last played Tuesday in Waco in a 6-1 win over Lamar at Getterman Stadium while the Cougars are coming off a three-game conference road sweep of UCONN. Houston also will carry a season-long 11-game win streak into the twinbill.
The Cougars are 1-5 vs. the top 25 this season, but did win their last matchup against a ranked team Wednesday in a 2-1 win over No. 18 Texas A&M at home.
Diedre Outon is Houston's ace out of the pitching circle with an 11-5 record and a 2.24 ERA while Selena Hernandez is among the Cougars' offensive leaders with 10 doubles, five homers and 29 RBI.
Whitney Canion continues to lead Baylor with a 15-5 record in the circle and a 1.51 ERA while senior Clare Hosack his having the best offensive year of her career with career highs in home runs (9) and RBI (34).
Last season in Waco, Baylor and Houston split a doubleheader April 23 with Canion and Outon each taking wins in the circle for their respective teams. Both players are back and are this seasons' aces for their respective teams, setting up a potential showdown in game one of the doubleheader Tuesday.
