SCOUTING TEXAS A&M
The Aggies enter the weekend winners of three of their last four, including a 2-1 series win at Iowa State this past weekend. Emily Albus leads with a .380 batting average, while Mel Dumezich's nine home runs and 31 RBI. Dumezich also carries a 19-8 record and 1.92 ERA with 212 strikeouts in 179.0 innings.
Texas A&M took the opening game of the series 6-1 in College Station on March 28.
Entering the doubleheader with SFA on April 4, Baylor had hit just one homer at home and five overall. BU has now blasted six home runs in its last five games, all at home, to nearly double the total to 11.
The Lady Bears put on a hitting clinic Wednesday against Stephen F. Austin. BU's 17 hits in game one were the most in a single game since April 6, 2011 at Texas Tech, while Holly Holl's leadoff homer was the first time a Lady Bear led off Baylor's first at-bat with a home run since Ashley Monceaux did so on May 19, 2007 vs. Hofstra. Strickland homered later that inning to mark the first time two BU players homered in the same inning since Clare Hosack and Dani Leal did so on April 6, 2011 at Tech.
PITCHING STAFF HOLDING ITS OWN
BU entered the week ranked 14th nationally and hold a 1.55 ERA, with Repka leading the way with a 1.42 mark.
HOMERS AWAY FROM HOME
Baylor plays in one of the toughest home run parks in the country, and this proves it. In Big 12 games since 2007 the Lady Bears have hit 43 of their 60 home runs (72 percent) away from Getterman Stadium.
HOLL HEATING UP IN LEADOFF
Holly Holl, who has hit safely in 10 of her last 11 games, moved to the leadoff spot for the first time in her career on April 4 against SFA. Since the move, the redshirt sophomore has gone 6-for-14 (.429) with a double and home run.
SHELTON LEADS THE WAY
Kathy Shelton has been the leader on and off the field for BU this season. The junior leads the team in batting average (.382), runs (29), hits (43), slugging percentage (.460), on-base percentage (.474) and stolen bases (20). She ranks second in the Big 12 with her 20 steals.
Baylor is 20-1 in games it scores first, and 5-11 when the opponent does. The lone loss when scoring first came against UCLA. When the Lady Bears hold a lead after four innings, they are undefeated, 17-0.
The Lady Bears have two of the top eight base stealers in program history on the 2012 squad. Senior Kayce Walker enters the weekend No. 5 all-time with 78, while Shelton is No. 7 with 70.
As a team, BU is second in the Big 12 with 64 stolen bases behind Texas' 68.
