The Baylor softball team (21-14 overall) will step outside conference play for a doubleheader at No. 9 Houston on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m. at Cougar Softball Stadium in Houston.
The Lady Bears, who are batting a Big 12 leading .313 as a team, are led at the plate by sophomore Kirsten Shortridge's .389 mark. Brette Reagan is second on the team with a 3.86 average and is currently on a six game hitting streak. In the circle, the Lady Bears carry a 2.80 team ERA, with Shortridge coming off a complete game one-hit shutout over Nebraska last Sunday.
Houston enters the contest winners of its last five contests and led by a pair of offensive players in Laurie Wagner and Elaina Nordstrom. Wagner is hitting .411 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI, while Nordstrom is batting .357 with 10 homers and 42 RBI. In the circle the Cougars are led by Angel Shamblin, who carries a 22-2 record with a 0.56 ERA and 182 strikeouts in 163 innings of work.
Baylor has won the last four contests between the schools, and lead the all-time series 8-3.
The Lady Bears will return home for Senior Weekend against Texas Tech beginning on Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
