STILLWATER, Okla. - Baylor's softball team is 7-16 all-time when traveling to Oklahoma State, but the No. 14 Lady Bears (30-9, 4-3) will look to build on five wins in the last six meetings with OSU Thursday through Saturday on the road.
Baylor swept the Cowgirls (23-18, 3-7) in Waco last season, and in the teams' last meetings in Stillwater, Baylor took two of three in the 2012 season. The pair of Big 12 schools has seen the home team have more success in the teams' previous matchups with OSU carrying a 16-7 record over Baylor when playing at home while BU is 11-6 vs. the Cowgirls in Waco.
The Lady Bears will begin the series Thursday at 7 p.m. at Cowgirl Softball Stadium, will follow Saturday with a 6 p.m. game and Sunday the series will close with the finale at Noon.
Baylor is coming off a 2-3 week with a split to the University of Houston on the road Tuesday before the No. 13-ranked Oklahoma Sooners took two of three from Baylor in Waco, Friday through Sunday.
Kansas swept Oklahoma State to begin the Cowgirls' Big 12 season March 28-30, then OU beat its in-state rival Cowgirls 2-0 April 2. OSU couldn't stop the losing skid against Iowa State April 4, but rebounded to take the series winning the final two games on April 5. Last weekend, Texas Tech took two of three from OSU in Lubbock, and the Cowgirls have a 3-7 start in Big 12 play heading into the Baylor series.
The teams, on paper, are evenly matched offensively with OSU holding a slight edge in batting average at .307 compared to the Lady Bears' .306 mark. BU averages just over five runs per contest while OSU scores just over 4.5 per game.
Baylor holds an edge over all Big 12 teams in the circle with a league-best 1.52 ERA compared to the Cowgirls' 2.61. However, fans can expect marquee-pitching matchups with Baylor's Whitney Canion (17-7, 1.56 ERA) and OSU's Simone Freeman (18-10, 1.96 ERA).
